Emma Simmons . . . About Me

There are two areas of research that really interest me, engineering and veterinary medicine. These two fields combine my love of animals and my passion for finding novel ways to solve real-world problems with the integration of design and technology. As a career, I want to synthesize these two interests. I want to pursue veterinary medicine, especially equine research, and biomedical engineering. So much of medicine and engineering focus on solving problems that mostly impact humans. I want to use these disciplines to help animals.

In this photo, I am working on designing and soldering the circuitry for one of the prototyping boards used in our project this year.

Other Things I Like

I enjoy swimming in the summer, especially at the beach, and sledding in the winter. I love music and my sister and I sing with a local community chorus. I also like drawing and playing chess.  But what I love the most is spending time with my twin and our animals. We have two dogs, three cats, and six fish including a 10" Ciclid fish.

I love the strategy of chess (left). I also enjoy singing (upper right - click to play) and playing with my dog (bottom right). And, of course, I spend lots of time working on my STEM projects.
